Adding External Files To The Library

The Library in Vuze normally shows files that you have downloaded, or are in the process of downloading. Sometimes you may want to add a file you already have on your computer to your library - possible reasons for this include

  • you want to make it available for playback using Vuze device support (e.g. on your PS3)
  • you want to transcode it and copy it to one of your devices (e.g. Kindle) (although you can do this without adding to your library, just drag the file from your file system to the device in the sidebar)
  • you want to burn it to DVD (although you can do this without adding to your library, just drag the file from your file system to the DVD entry in the sidebar)
  • you want to play it using the Vuze HD Player (although you can do this without adding to your library, just drag the file from your file system to the HD Player sidebar entry)
  • you want to send the file to friends

All these cases are supported by Vuze's 'Sharing' feature. Note the fact that when you 'share' a file it is added to Vuze as if it were a download - one consequence of this is that if another user gets access to the auto-generated torrent for the file, and you have left the file in a seeding state, they will be able to download it from you.
