How to change the icon that Azureus uses in the Notification Area / System tray / Taskbar.

The effect of this change is to change the icon to any picture of the appropriate dimensions and colour depths. The image needs to be a 16x16 size .png file and named 'a16.png'. It is located in the directory /org/gudy/azureus2/ui/icons/ inside the azureus2.jar file.

To effect the change follow these steps after terminating all running instances of Azureus:

  1. Venture to where your Azureus install is and rename azureus2.jar to azureus2.zip. (If your archive manager supports handling .jar files, you can skip this step.)
  2. Open the Zip archive in your favoured archive manager and navigate to directory /org/gudy/azureus2/ui/icons/
  3. Replace a16.png in the archive with the new picture, named identically
  4. Close and save the archive
  5. Rename azureus2.zip back to azureus2.jar (the reverse of the first step)

Many popular archivers like WinRAR and WinZip should be able to open .jar files directly (without renaming it to .zip).
