Imho this article should be split into Firewalling, PortForwarding (how to do it, brief explanations) and NAT (the in-deepth explanation, most users don't care about that) and we should remove the instructions for specific firewalls and routers since there are too many out there.

The article itself should be structured into a general explanation, links to portforward.com, maybe some other wiki articles (i.e. Firewalling) and then a general, router-independend step-by-step guide for a) UPnP and b) static forwarding rules. We have portforward.com for the detailed information.

in a nutshell: that article is ways too long (unneccessary information) and too confusing for the newbies

I disagree this article is not confusing at all to this newbie; very useful tool
