You need to make sure that you have setup Azureus correctly.

[edit] Best way

  1. Ok, you need to download a .torrent file from the web. Please see Helpful links for ways to search for .torrent files. Please note: We are not able to help you search for .torrents that allow you to share files that are copyright protected and are being shared without the copyright holders permission.
  2. Now you need to load the .torrent file into Azureus; You can do this in several ways; the following is the way I recommend:
  3. Go to Tools > Options > Files and tick the box that says Save to default data directory.
  4. Choose a default location on your hard drive where you would like your files to be automatically saved.
  5. Click Save at the lower left corner of the screen.
  6. Go to Tools > Options > Files > Torrents and tick the box called "Import new .torrents automatically".
  7. Select a directory from which you would like your .torrents to be automatically imported into Azureus. Please note: If you choose the same directory that your web browser downloads to by default, then whenever you download a .torrent from the web, as long as Azureus is running, or as soon as you start Azureus, the .torrent will load itself without you having to do much else.
  8. Click Save at the bottom left corner of the Azureus window.

[edit] Now you can EITHER

  1. Go to File > Open > .torrent File OR in the toolbar at the top, click on the folder icon with the lock on it, the one at the far top left of the Azureus window.
  2. Choose the .torrent file you wish to open from the appropriate location on your hard drive.
  3. The file will appear in the top portion (downloading) of the window.

[edit] OR

  1. Ensure that the .torrent file is located in the automatically import directory you selected earlier.
  2. Wait for the .torrent to start by itself. It will take some time for the torrent to connect to peers and really get going as it should, so please do be patient at this point.
  3. In either case, please read Increase download speed for best initial speed settings for Azureus, and Uploading more than downloading for more information about how your speed settings will work.

[edit] Quick way (NOT recommended for first timers):

  1. Ok, you need to download a .torrent file from the web. Please see Helpful links for ways to search for .torrent files or just use Google. Please note: We are not able to help you search for .torrents that allow you to share files that are copyright protected and are being shared without the copyright holders permission.
  2. Now you need to load the .torrent file into Azureus: Click on the folder icon in the toolbar at the top left of the Azureus window, the icon second from the left, the one WITHOUT the picture of the lock on it.
  3. Choose the load location where your .torrent file is located on your hard drive.
  4. Choose the save location where you wish the completed file to be saved on your hard drive.
  5. Now please WAIT for the .torrent to get going as it should, it may take quite some time, please be patient.
